James Semion Campbell, 89, of Hale Center, passed away on Sunday, November 5, 2017. Funeral Services will be 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at the First Baptist Church in Hale Center with Dr. Carroll Green and Pastor Kris Knippa officiating. Burial will follow in the Plainview Memorial Park under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors. He was born October 2, 1928 in Bluegrove, Texas to Richard and Dora Sullenger Campbell. He married Chrystine Ross on January 18, 1954 in Clovis, NM. He was a lifelong farmer and farmed in Bluegrove and Mayfield for 57 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Hale Center. He joined Bluegrove Masonic Lodge in 1951 and is a member of LeMond Masonic Lodge #832. He was a charter member of the Lubbock Scottish Rite. He was recognized as Honorary Chapter Farmer of the Hale Center FFA. James loved gospel music and was a past President of Texas/Oklahoma Singing Convention. He also sang in a trio at these conventions. Over the years James and Chrystine regularly traveled the country singing and playing at various singing conventions. He was also a member of the Woodmen of the World and Modern Woodman. He was preceded in death by a son, Robert Campbell, a grandson Justin as well as his parents and nine brothers and sisters. Survivors include his wife, Chrystine; sons, James B. (Jim) Campbell and wife Shelley of Slaton, Kenny Campbell and wife Melody of Hale Center; daughter, Cammy Whitaker and husband Dwain of Tomball; 10 grandchildren, John Campbell and his children, Hannah, Reid, and Kolbie of Shallowater, Tell Campbell and wife Nicole and their children Morgan, and Clara of Levelland, Ty Campbell and Berkeley and their children Bentley and William of Lubbock, Jason Campbell and wife Amanda and their children Stetson, Brenna, Coltyn and Reilly of Abernathy, Michelle Burrus and husband Trapper and their children Kendi, Quaid and Ellie Jo of Lubbock, Jacob Campbell of Hale Center, Jerrod Campbell of Oklahoma City, Jennifer Ward and husband Josh and son Joseph of Clarendon, Zach and Cameron Whitaker of Tomball. The family suggests memorial contributions to First Baptist Church, Hale Center or Scottish Rite, Lubbock.
