Phil Dunavant (Plainview)

Phil Dunavant passed away Thursday, June 1, 2006 at his residence. A memorial services will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday, June 3, 2006 at Third and College Church of Christ in Lockney with Steve McLean, officiating. A private graveside will be at a later time and his cremains will be buried in Carr’s Chapel Cemetery by Kornerstone Funeral Directors. Phil was born December 12, 1945 to George Phillip and Georgia Prue Dunavant. He graduated from Petersburg High School in 1964 and graduated from Texas Tech in 1969. He was a veteran of Vietnam and had received a bronze star for valor. Phil married Susan Elaine Ross November 10, 1973 in Plainview. He farmed and raised his children in Floyd County. Phil was on the Farm Bureau Board of Floyd County and a member of Third and College Church of Christ in Lockney. He was a lover of old cars and was a member of Lone Star Street Rod Association and National Street Rod Association. She is survived by his wife Susan; a daughter Lee Anne Dunavant of Canyon, a son John Phillip Dunavant of Petersburg, a brother Neil Dunavant and his wife Nellie of Plainview. He is preceded in death by his parents and one sister Polly Dunavant. Memorials may be made to Floyd County Historical Museum 105 E. Missouri, Floydada, TX 79235 or Petersburg Public Library, P.O.
