Tulia, Texas— Alfredo Chapa, 89, died Wednesday, December 23, 2009 in Tulia. Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Monday, December 28, 2009 in the Catholic Church of the Holy Spirit with Fr. Fernando Ruga, pastor officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. A rosary service will be held at 6:00 pm Sunday, December 27, 2009 at the funeral home. Mr. Chapa was born December 31, 1919 in Penitas, TX. He graduated from LaHoya High School in 1941. He served in the US Army during WWII. He married Mary Lou Gonzales on April 28, 1946. He worked for Taylor-Evans Grain Co. for 31 years. Survivors include his wife: Mary Lou Chapa of Tulia, two daughters: Emma Hernandez and husband Joe and Irene Mireles and husband Ruben, all of Tulia, one son: Alfredo Chapa, Jr. of Tulia, two sisters: Eva Chapa of Mission and Aurora De La Garza of McAllen, 9 grandchildren: Domingo Garcia, Jr., David Garcia, Luis Garcia, Jennifer Resendez, Stephanie Barrientez, Elias Hernandez, Tonya Raines, Ruben Mireles, Jr. and Richard Mireles and 9 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by one daughter and son-in-law: Mary Lou and Domingo Chapa, two brothers and three sisters.
