Tulia, Texas—Wylie A. Byrd, 84, died Saturday, July 1, 2006 at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, July 6, 2006 at the J.W. Byrd Home Place, 12 miles east of I-27 on FM 285. Burial will follow in Wayside Cemetery under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors in Tulia. Mr. Byrd was born May 5, 1922 in the Wayside Area to J.W and Julia Byrd. He attended Wayside Schools. He married Billie Harral on August 25, 1941. They moved northeast of Tulia where he was active in farming and ranching. In 1957 he began manufacturing a machine to pick up down crops, the Roll-A-Cone, which is still made today. The business grew to include large tillage and other farm equipment and is still operated by the second and third generation today. He was also known for his metal frame houses. He was active in his farming and business until he was almost 80 years of age when he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s. He is survived by his wife of almost 65 years Billie Byrd of Tulia, two sons and daughters-in-law; Dan and Pat Byrd and Joe Lynn and Julie Byrd, four daughters and sons-in-law; Freva and Don Adams, Wyla and Ed Miller, Kylene and Ron Miller and Dera and Paul Rousseau, all of Tulia, two sisters; Esther Quarnstrom of Amarillo and Lorene Visser of Bertram, Texas and one brother; Earl Byrd of Tucson, Arizona. He is also survived by 23 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren.
