Celebration of Life service for John Wayne Warrick, 80, of Plainview will be at 2:00 pm Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at the First United Methodist Church in Plainview with Pastor Randy Dean (son-in-law) and Pastor Jerry Moore officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Monday, February 22, 2010 at Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. John began celebrating his heavenly life on Friday, February 19, 2010. John was born to B.R. & Velma Warrick on December 28, 1929 in Lockney, TX. He attended school in Lockney and Plainview, graduating from Plainview High in 1948. John served in the Texas National Guard in 1947 - 1956. Upon graduation, he began work for the U.S. Postal Service for 4 years. He married Carolyn Sue Holdridge in Hope, Arkansas on July 16, 1950. From 1952 - 54, John was partner in the used car business. Then in 1954, he started Plains Finance Corporation, with offices in Plainview, Hereford, San Antonio, Lufkin and Abilene and served as President for 23 years. In 1958, he started Warrick Furniture which remains in operation. In 1954, John joined the Lions Club, serving as President and Zone Chairmain and on the District Cabinet. John is past President of the Plainviw Camp of Gideons International and served as treasurer and secretary of Zone 4 (Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Arizona). He was one of the founders of Christian Fidelity Life Insurance Company of Waxahachie, TX., and served on the Board of Directors and Executive Committee for 44 years. He served on the Board of Directors of Southwest Home Life Insurance Company, Dallas, TX., serving as Chariman and CEO from 1993 - 97. John is past president of Plainview Knife & Fork Club, Plainview Downtown Association, Plainview Downtown Development Corp. He served as President of Christian Fidelity Foundation and on the Salvation Army Advisory Board, as well as a member of Oxford Club. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Carolyn; son, Randy (Gretta) Warrick of Plainview; daughter, Ginger (Randy) Dean of Forest, WI; 5 grandchildren, Kacy (Russ) Read, Seattle, WA; Libby (Darren) Hose, Amery, WI; Peter (Tana) Warrick, Lubbock; Jonathan (Abby), LaCrosse, WI; Emily (Jeremy) Robinson, Kingsville; 9 great-grandchildren; one sister, Wanda Jones, Plainview; neices, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, B.R. & Velma Warrick; brother, R.B. Warrick; sister, Dorthy Green.
