John Weldon Cumbie (Plainview)

John Weldon Cumbie, 88, of Stephenville, formerly of Plainview passed away on Saturday, February 20, 2010, at Community Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Stephenville. Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, February 24, 2010, at Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel with Rev. Earl Cumbie of Grove, Oklahoma officiating. Burial will follow in Plainview Memorial Park under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. A visitation will be held on Tuesday afternoon from 4 to 6 P.M. at the funeral home. Mr. Cumbie was born on July 17, 1921, in Henderson County, Texas, to Charles Adolphus and Carrie Cumbie. He grew up in Floydada and attended Floydada High School. He farmed for many years in Floyd and Hale Counties. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eddie Modena Cumbie in March, 2009, his parents, two sisters Lockie Currie and Annie Jones, and four brothers Joe B., Truman, Loyd, and Drue. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Ruby and Tommy Barker of Stephenville; three grandchildren, Brian and Julie Barker of San Angelo, Craig and Karmen Barker of Lubbock, Tametha Barker of Gallup, New Mexico; and seven great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials to a favorite charity.
