Clarence W. Wright (Plainview)

Clarence W. Wright, 86, of Plainview, passed away Friday, July 28, 2006 at his residence. Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, July 31, 2006 at First Baptist Church Sanctuary with Dr. Travis Hart, pastor officiating. Graveside will follow at Parklawn Memorial Gardens by Kornerstone Funeral Directors. Mr. Wright was born September 17, 1919 in McCoy to Willis Eugene and Sally Thetford Wright. He graduated from Olton High School in 1939, served in WW II from 1941 to 1945 in the Army Air Force and farmed in Olton after the war. Clarence married Colette Jones on March 9, 1951 in Plainview. He had worked at Plainview Wheat Growers for several years and was General Manager of United Farm Industries for 30 years, He had also worked for Producers Grain Corporation and Kress Farmers Elevator. Clarence was past president of Texas Wheat Growers Association, Plainview Stock Show, Texas Soybean Association and commissioner of Babe Ruth Baseball League. He was a member of American Business Club, Promenader’s Square Dance Club and First Baptist Church where he was a Deacon, Sunday School teacher, and greeter. He had been awarded the 4H Silver Spur Award and Texas Cooperator in 1971. Survivors include his wife Colette Wright of Plainview, children Caren Miller and her husband Barry, Colby Wright and his wife Lisa and Caryl Owens, all of Plainview; a brother, Maurice Wright of Ft. Worth; two sisters, Eunice Patterson and JoAnne Reed both of Garland; half sister and brother, Nora Terry of Corpus Christi and Bob Wright of Houston; grandchildren Jeff, Holly and Jennifer Miller, Will and Colti Wright, Adam and Rebecca Owens, all of Plainview.
