Silverton, Texas—“Pappy” Wayne Stephens, 67, died Saturday, April 3, 2010 in Silverton. Celebration of Life services will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Les Reed, pastor and Rev. Jess Little, pastor of Grace Community Fellowship Church in Claude assisting. Burial will follow in Silverton Cemetery under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. His body will be at 900 Loretta until service time. Wayne was born June 28, 1942 in Wharton, TX. He grew up in Silverton and graduated from Silverton High School. He attended Tarleton State University and Texas Tech. he married Betty Willingham on August 14, 1965 in Lubbock. He was a farmer all his life. He was an active member of First Baptist Church, a lifelong member of the Silverton Young Farmers and a founding member of the Briscoe County Activities Association. His family includes: His wife Betty Stephens of Silverton, two daughters and sons-in-law: Jeannita and Keith Ellison of Canadian and Christina and Trevor Barker of Silverton, two sons and a daughter-in-law: Stephen Stephens of Uvalde and Larry B. and Tam of Silverton, one sister: Margaret Thornton of Burleson, one brother: Jerry Stephens of Salisaw, Oklahoma, twelve grandchildren: Melinda Cook, Caleb McElroy, Larry B. Hood, III, Skyler Barker, T.J. Barker, Tatum Ellison, Tyler Ellison, Kendal Daniels, Kaleigh Stephens, Kyler Stephens, Kamree Stephens and Karley Stephens, seven great grandchildren: Gavin McElroy, Katelyn Cook, Carter Cook, Grayson McElroy, C.J.
