John D. Powers

Tulia, Texas—John D. Powers, 73, died Thursday, August 24, 2006. Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm Saturday, August 26, 2006 in the First Baptist Church with Rev. Terry Rains, officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors in Tulia. Mr. Powers was born on July 14, 1932 in Wanette, Oklahoma, He grew up in Shawnee, Oklahoma. He served in the Army during WWII. After his discharge he worked for 5 Cement Company, Kibler Cookie Company and for 16 years with AAA as road service manager. He married Phyllis Robie on March 4, 1977. He is survived by his wife; Phyllis Powers and a great grandson Kevin Powers both of the home, three daughters; Rosemary Reynolds of Shawnee, Oklahoma, Cheryl Vaughn of Tulia and Janice Griffin of Gruver, Texas, three sons; Robert Powers of Amarillo, Wayne Robie of Roeland Park, Kansas and Michael Robie of Amarillo, three brothers; Glenn Powers of Noble, Oklahoma, Jack Powers of Shawnee, Oklahoma and Joe Powers of Amarillo, 17 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials given to the Kevin Powers Scholarship Fund in memory of John D. Powers, @ First Baptist Church, 101 N. Crosby, Tulia, Texas, 79088.
