Billie Joe Rogers (Plainview)

Billie Joe Rogers, 79, of Lubbock, passed away Friday, August 25, 2006. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, August 28, 2006 at Saint Alice Catholic Church in Plainview with Father Jim McCartney officiating. Burial will follow at Lockney Cemetery by Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. Mr. Rogers was born October 16, 1926 on the Wolf Ranch in Grayson Co. TX to Charlie Rufus and Jesse Mae McCulley Hinsley Rogers. He was a Naval MMC3, serving aboard the U.S.S. Lexington during WWII. Billie Joe was there when the atomic bomb was used against Japan and when the truce was signed between Japan and the United States. After serving in the military he worked as a cowboy on a ranch north of Amarillo and later in San Angelo. He then worked for Quicksall Pryor for 25 years. He had married Cecil Odell Thomason in Clovis in1950 and she passed away in 1968. On August 2, 1991 he had married Kay Mitchell in Plainview. In the last 15 years he has lived in Plainview, Amarillo and then returned to Lubbock. Survivors include his wife, Kay Rogers of Lubbock; three daughters Cynthia Kay and husband Larry Francis of Newalla, Ok., Michealle Renae and husband Dr. Kevin Stennett of Lockney, Donna and husband Rick Walker of Littlefield; four sons Rodney Rogers of Mesa, AZ; Eddie Black and fiancé Valerie Paggett of Cold Springs, Ok., Darrin Black and fiancé Pennye Salazar of Abilene, Jerry Simmons of Lubbock; five sisters Opal Cox, Sue Casstevens both of Lubbock, Cecil Hollinsworth of Littlefield, Dovye Massie of Pampa, Naomi Fasching of San Diego, Ca.; fifteen grandchildren; five great grandchildren.
