Tulia, Texas—Modesta “Linda” Rios, 68, died Monday, April 19, 2010 in Amarillo. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, April 23, 2010 in the Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel with her brother, Rev. Ysmael Salas, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. A prayer service will be held at 6:00 PM Thursday, April 22, 2010 at the funeral home chapel. Modesta was born February 28, 1942 in Victoria. She grew up there and attended schools there. She married Chris Rios, Sr. in October 1963 and was a longtime resident of Swisher County where she worked as a cook at the Senior Citizens Center for several years and as a housekeeper and a caregiver for several families in Tulia including Mattie Devin. Survivors include her husband: Chris Rios, Sr. of Tulia, two daughters: Debra Olivarez of Corinth, and Rosemary Rodriquez of Tulia, two sons: Victor Rios of Harlingen, and Chris Rios, Jr. of Amarillo, her mother: Maria Salas of Tulia, five sisters: Olivia Sanchez of Tulia, Lilly Vargas of Plainview, Sylvia Garza of Goodland, Kansas, Juanita Zuniga of Amarillo and Lisa Mata of Tulia, four brothers: Ysmael Salas, Jr. of Wichita, Kansas, Daniel Salas of Amarillo, Israel Salas of Pilot Point and Ezekiel Salas of Dallas, nine grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter. She is preceded in death by her father: Ysmael Salas, a sister: Stephanie Hernandez, a brother: Samuel Salas and two grandchildren.
