J.D. Adams (Plainview)

J.D. Adams, 68, of Petersburg, passed away on September 2, 2006 at his residence. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 6, 2006 at First Baptist Church in Petersburg with Jim Fullingim officiating. Burial will follow in Strip Cemetery west of Petersburg on Hwy 54 under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors. Mr. Adams was born to Worth and Molly Adams on May 15, 1938 in Petersburg. He attended Petersburg ISD from 1944-1956. He married LaHonda Gail Goldston in Petersburg on November 29, 1958. He farmed in Petersburg until 1963 and then worked for John Deere of Petersburg from 1964-65. He then moved his family to Guymon, OK where he also worked for John Deere from 1965-1966. They then moved to Bovina, TX where he was employed with CFS Fertilizer and Supply from 1966-1970. He returned to Petersburg to farm and later retired. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge until its disbandment in the 1990’s. He was also a member of the First Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and his wife LaHonda played the Organ for many years. He spent several years lay preaching and holding revivals at Knox City with Jimmy Fullingim. His is survived by his wife, LaHonda Adams of the Home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ricky Lynn Adams and his wife Linda of Petersburg, Bucky Adams and his wife Margaret also of Petersburg; five grandchildren, Amanda Brown and husband Christopher of Lubbock, TX, Christopher Adams of Lubbock, TX, Courtney Burt of Petersburg, TX, Tyler Adams of Lubbock, TX, and Taylor Adams of Petersburg, TX. The family suggests memorials to First Baptist Church of Petersburg.
