Tulia, Texas—James “Jim” Hollaway, 76, died Wednesday, May 5, 2010 in Tulia. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, May 8, 2010 in the Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel with Rev. James Hassell, pastor of First Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. Jim was born May 10, 1933 in Wellington to Eugene and Delma Hale Hollaway. He was raised there and attended schools there. He joined the US Air Force in April 1953 and served 20 years and a day, retiring from active duty in April 1973 as a Master Sergeant. He served in the South Pacific, Vietnam and Korea. He married Erma Wilfong on July 10, 1953 in Wellington. They moved to Tulia in 1975 where he operated the Texaco Service Station for 20 years before retiring. He was the current chaplain and service officer for the Tulia VFW #1798. Survivors include his wife: Erma Hollaway of Tulia, one daughter and son-in-law: Pam and Tom Hendricks of Colorado Springs, Colorado, two sisters: Etha McLain of Canyon and Imogene Friedrichs of Woodsboro, one granddaughter: Tamara Dumond and her husband Matt of South Portland, Maine. He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: Richard and Walter Hollaway, two sisters: Flora Riddle and Sybil Brewer and one grandson: Cory Hendricks.
