Melba Doss Hartley, 93, of Plainview passed away on May 6, 2010 in Olton. Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, May 8, 2010 at Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel with Rev. Carroll Green, pastor of First Baptist Church of Hale Center officiating. Burial will follow in Plainview Cemetery under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. A visitation will be held Friday evening from 6 to 7:30 P.M. at Kornerstone Funeral Directors. Melba was born on September 1, 1916 in Wade, Oklahoma to Elmer and Alma Woods. She grew up in Wade, Oklahoma and several other places because her family worked in the oil fields. She graduated from Wayland Baptist University and taught Kindergarten for 17 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Plainview and was a member of the Good Sams Club. She was also a member of the Retired Teachers Association. She married Burnie Doss in 1932. He preceded her in death in 1959. She then married Herbert Hartley in 1964 and he preceded her in death in 1989. She was also preceded in death by her parents, one son, Jimmie Doss, and two brothers, Cecil Boyd Woods and Eugene Forrest Woods. Survivors include two daughters, Jo Ann Mills and husband Robert of Amarillo, Beverly Groves and husband Ronald of Hale Center; one sister, Louise Williams of Rotan; eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
