Essie Maie Ware Stevens (Plainview)

Essie Maie Ware Stevens, 75, of Plainview, passed away on September 9, 2006 in Covenant Medical Center of Lubbock. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 13, 2006 at Seth Ward Baptist Church in Plainview with Rev. Jim Ritter officiating. Burial will follow in Plainview Cemetery under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors. Mrs. Stevens was born to James and Eva Goodman on July 5, 1931 in Watonga, OK. She was raised in Roaring Springs and California. She attended school in Roaring Springs and California. She moved to Plainview in 1968. She married Ray Ware on January 3, 1948. He died on June 21, 1990. She married J.P. Stevens in 1992. He died on March 18, 1997. She worked as a cook for several years, including Hale Center Senior Citizens and Hi-Plains Hospital. She also worked as a private sitter for the elderly. She was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary and American Legions Ladies Auxiliary. She was past president of the V.F.W. Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary and served as an officer in the District Auxiliary. She is survived by one daughter Gail Cox and husband Jerry of Plainview; four sons James Ware and wife Lynette of Rowlett, David Ware and wife Libby of Amarillo, Ronnie Ware and Debra Lyons of Amarillo and Randy Ware and wife Jo Beth of Plainview; twelve grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
