Kornerstone Funeral Directors 201 W. Broadway Tulia, Texas 79088 806.995.1701 May 27, 2010 Tulia, Texas-J.K. Milam, Jr., 86, died Wednesday, May 26, 2010 in Lubbock. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, May 28, 2010 in the First United Methodist Church with Mr. Bruce Baird, pastor of Central Church of Christ and Rev. Ernie McGaughey, retired Methodist minister officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. Mr. Milam was born May 3, 1924, to John K. and Bessie (Harper) Milam, at Circle Back, Texas. He attended schools at Circle Back, Fairview, Sudan, West Texas State College and the University of Oklahoma. He volunteered for the Army in 1942 and was a Technical Sergeant in the 1055 Engineers PC&R Group Army Corps of Engineers and was a First Class Deep Sea Salvage and Demolition Diver and served in the European Theater of Operations during World War II. After receiving an Honorable Discharge from the Army, he was employed at the US Post Office in Hereford before returning to West Texas College to continue his education. He married Mary Alice Foster at the Foster (her family’s) family ranch home near Wayside, Texas on June 12, 1949. He and his wife were engaged in the farming and cattle business in the Vigo Park and Tulia area since 1949. He retired in 1992. He was a member of the Texas Cattle Feeders Assn., a life member of the Tulia VFW Post 1798 and the First United Methodist Church of Tulia. Survivors include his wife: Mary Milam of Tulia, two sons: J.K. Milam, III of Roswell, NM and Michael Milam of Cheyenne, WY, one daughter: Marcia Lynn Milam Kiser of Lubbock, TX, six grandsons: Scott Milam of Waco, TX, Jason Milam of San Antonio, TX, J.K. Milam, IV of the US Army, TX, Clayton Milam of Austin, TX, Clint Newman of Roswell, NM and Ben Newman of Roswell, NM, two great grandchildren: Hayle Newman and Brett Milam. He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister: Evelyn L. Milam. The family suggests memorials to the Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch, PO Box 1890, Amarillo, TX 79174-0001.
