R.P. Reed, 84, of Kress passed away on Wednesday, June 16, 2010, at his home. Funeral Services will be at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, June 19, 2010, in the First United Methodist Church of Kress with Rev. John Doran officiating and Rev. Claude McKiddy assisting. Burial will follow in Kress Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. There will be a visitation from 6-7 P.M. on Friday, June 18, 2010, at Kornerstone Funeral Directors. Mr. Reed was born on December 10, 1925 in Swisher County to Robert Reed, Sr. and Gladys Tannahill Reed. He grew up in Kress and graduated from Kress High School in 1943. He entered the U.S. Navy and served in the Pacific Theater during WWII. After the war he returned to Kress to Farm and Ranch. He raised Black Angus cattle. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Kress and taught Sunday school. He also served on many different committees within the church. He was the Past-President of the Kress Cemetery Association and a former school board member. He was a member of the Gideon’s International. He married Louise May on April 25, 1953 in Plainview. He is survived by his wife Louise Reed of Kress, one son, Tim Reed and wife Teri of Kress, one daughter, Carol Bennington and husband Dale of Abilene, two sisters, Laverne King of Granbury and Dean Cloyd of Denver, CO, and four grandchildren, Jon Anderson and Reed Anderson both of San Angelo, Sean Reed and Riley Reed both of Kress. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Bill Reed
