Archie Floyd Keys, 89, of Plainview passed away July 18, 2010. He was born in Lockney, Texas on December 14, 1920 to Archie J. Keys and Mollie Eva Keys. Archie served in the US Air Force during World War II and later became a Florist in the family business after graduating Plainview High School and Texas Tech with a degree in Horticulture. In 1945 he married Mary Elizabeth Moore from Graham, Texas and had two children James Wiley (deceased) and Mary Janice. Archie played drums in High School, Texas Tech and US Air Force bands and orchestras. He also brought over 50 years of joy to the surrounding communities playing with the “Old Masters of Swing” combo. Over the years he was active in scouting, the Red Cross, Chamber of Commerce, FTD, the West Texas-New Mexico Floral Assn, Optimist and many other organizations and charities. Archie was a devoted Mason for over 60 years. He was past Master Of the Archie J. Keys Lodge #1395 and received many honors and awards including the Golden Trowel, the Excalibur from the Knight Templar and the Red Cross of Constantine. He was recently elected Chaplain of both Plainview Lodges. He is survived by one daughter, four grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. The Family would like to thank all of Archie’s dedicated doctors, nurses, friends and caregivers who helped him so much during his last days. Funeral services will be at 10:30 on Thursday July 22 in the First Methodist Church Chapel with Rev. Jeff Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in Lockney Cemetery in Lockney, Texas under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors.
