Services for Karen Sanderson, 66, of Tulia, Texas will be at 10:00 AM, Saturday, July 31, 2010 at the First Baptist Church with Rev. James Hassell and Rev. Charles Davenport officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. Visitation for family and friends will be from 6-8 P.M., Friday, July 30, 2010, at the funeral home. Karen passed away Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at the Lubbock Heart Hospital. She was born September 23, 1943 in Jacksboro, Texas. She grew up in Jack County, Texas and attended school in Bryson and West Texas State University. She married Don Sanderson May 30, 1969 in Tulia. She had been the office manager of MHMR for 15 years. She also opened a play school for preschoolers for several years. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Tulia. Karen is survived by her husband, Don, of Tulia; a son, David, and wife Stefanie of Ransom Canyon; a daughter, Dawn Edington of Jal, New Mexico; a daughter, Stephanie Cartwright and husband Todd Cartwright of Jonesboro, Arkansas; step children, Dawn Lanham and husband James of Gatesville, Texas, Paul Sanderson of Gatesville, Texas and Janet Marcum and husband Joe of Canyon, Texas; one sister, Jane Pollard of San Francisco, California; three granddaughters, Sydney Jones of College Station; Lauren Jones of Shallowater and Makenzie Edington of College Station; five grandsons, Michael Edington of Jal, New Mexico; Ben, Nathan, Ryan and Stephen Cartwright of Jonesboro, Arkansas; five step-grandchildren and eight great step-grandchildren. Karen was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Ruby Shepard and her brother, Don Shepard. The family suggests memorials to First Baptist Church in Tulia.
