Edna Lucille Berner Schumacher went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on August 27, 2010. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 31 at 10:00 am. Funeral services will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Plainview with Pastor Gerald Boerger officiating. Visitation will be on Monday, August 30th from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Kornerstone Funeral Home. Burial will be immediately following at Parklawn Memorial Gardens under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Home. Edna was born on February 1, 1936 to Carl and Florence Phiffer Berner of Kress. She was the fourth of six children. She grew up on the farm with her family and attended school in Kress. She graduated from Kress High School in 1954. On July 25, 1954, she married Wesley Arthur Schumacher at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Plainview. Shortly after marriage, they moved to Ft. Smith, Arkansas while Wesley finished out his time in the Army. They moved back to Plainview and lived for the next 46 years. They then moved to Lubbock and lived for five years before moving back to Plainview. Edna was baptized into the Lutheran Church when she was an infant at Kress Lutheran Church. She was confirmed at age 14 at Tulia Lutheran Church. When she was married she became a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Plainview. She served as Altar Guild chairman for many years. She served as a Sunday School teacher for more than 18 years. While she lived in Lubbock, she was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church. While at Redeemer she served on the Altar Guild. While her children were growing up, Edna was very active in their lives. She served on the Hillcrest PTA for 12 years and served as an executive officer for many those of years. She served as an adult leader in 4-H for 20 years. She led the Rifle project, Food and Nutrition project, and helped with the Clothing and Textiles project. When her grandchildren joined 4-H, she assisted them in their Food and Nutrition projects and Clothing and Textiles projects. She received the highest honor for a 4-H leader, the Silver Spur award. She attended numerous stock shows, soccer, basketball, baseball, and football games and track meets. After her children were grown, she began to China Paint. She was a very accomplished china painter and won many awards at the South Plains Fair. She was a member of the South Plains China Club for more than 30 years. She served as treasurer for more than 13 years and helped coordinate the China Painting exhibits at the fair for 20 years. Besides being an accomplished china painter, she was an excellent cook and seamstress. Her children and grandchildren often stopped by her house when they were living on the farm to grab a bite to eat or something sweet. When her daughter married she made her wedding dress and all of the bride’s maid dresses. Edna is survived by her husband of 56 years, Wesley Arthur Schumacher of Plainview. Other survivors include her four children and their spouses. Mark and Charlotte Schumacher and Gaylan and Lisa Schumacher of Plainview, Dwain and Denise Schumacher of Midland, and Sharon and A.J. Domenichini of Ramstein, Germany. Edna loved and cherished her 12 grandchildren. Leah Schumacher and Laci and Greg Kish of Richardson, Landon Schumacher, Rance and Alissa Schumacher of Snyder, Kelsey and Alissa Schumacher of Oklahoma City, OK, Denae and Shawn Sims of Midland, Darren Schumacher and Gail Schumacher and Danielle Schumacher of Midland, Caleb Schumacher of Plainview, Michael, Sarah, and Daniel Domenichini of Ramstein, Germany and one great grandson, Jonathan Schumacher and two great granddaughters, Aubry Schumacher and Katriel Schumacher. She is also survived by one sister, Noretta Adrian of Lubbock, and two brothers Harold Berner of Kress and Richard Berner of Apex, North Carolina. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Everett and Roy Berner, and a grandson, Thomas Schumacher.
