Thomas Richard Dykes, Jr (Buddy), 84, of Plainview passed away on Saturday, August 28, 2010 in Plainview. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, September 1, 2010 at Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel with Rev. Jim Ritter of Seth Ward Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Plainview Cemetery under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. Buddy was born on January 8, 1926 in Vernon to Thomas Richard Dykes, Sr. and Mittie Love Dykes. He grew up and attended schools in the Running Water Draw Community. He served during WWII in Okinawa as a Navy SeaBee. He was active in local, state, and national V.F.W., American Legion, and DAV. He was also a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service for over 30 years. He was a member of Seth Ward Baptist Church. He married Betty Durham on January 16, 1948 in Plainview. He is survived by his wife, Betty Dykes of Plainview; son, Richard Dykes and wife Kay of Lubbock; daughter, Zandra Cartwright and husband Gary of Lubbock; sister, Dorothy Dell and husband Redis Whitfield of Odessa; 3 grandsons, 1 granddaughter, 4 great grandsons, and 3 great granddaughters. Buddy was preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Ruth Edmonson, Rosie Ray, Mittie Lee Painter and his parents.
