Tulia, Texas—Margaret Nicholas Devin, 94, died Saturday, August 28, 2010 in Amarillo. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, August 31, 2010 in the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Kay Reed, pastor officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. Margaret was born February 23, 1916 in Lincoln, Nebraska and moved to Amarillo in 1927. She graduated from Canyon High School in 1935 and from West Texas Normal University in 1939. She began her teaching career in Artesia, New Mexico and was married to Loyd Devin on October 27, 1945. Margaret was an active member of First Methodist Church, Canyon as a Sunday school teacher and taught kindergarten. She and Loyd were Senior Class Sponsors at Canyon High School for many years. In 1958 the family moved to Dumas where she continued as a Sunday school teacher at United Methodist Church and taught first grade at East Ward Elementary until retiring in the early 1970’s. After retirement they moved to Tulia where she remained active in the United Methodist Women teaching Sunday school and serving as the voice of a Sunday morning radio program. Margaret was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a person of strong faith, lived by example and always found the good in others. She was preceded in death by her husband, Loyd, and her brother, Dean Nicholas. Survivors include her two sons, Robert Devin of Canyon and James Devin and wife Sandy of Southlake. Three grandchildren, Robin Devin Schoepf and her husband Joel of New Braunfels; Jason Devin of Lubbock and Josh Devin of Austin and a great granddaughter; Lucy Schoepf.
