James Truitt Hartsell (Plainview)

Truitt Hartsell Plainview, Texas – Services for James Truitt Hartsell, 79, of Plainview, Texas, will be held at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, September 8, 2010, at College Heights Baptist Church in Plainview with Rev. Don Robertson officiating. Burial with U.S. Army Military Honors will follow in Floyd County Memorial Park in Floydada under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. The family will receive friends from 6-8 P.M., Tuesday at the funeral home. Mr. Hartsell died Saturday, September 4, 2010, at an Amarillo hospital. He was born on February 13, 1931, in Floydada, Texas, to James Arthur and Edna Caroline Giles Hartsell. He lived in the Floydada area and graduated from Floydada High School in 1948. Mr. Hartsell enlisted in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict serving from February 2, 1951, until being honorably discharged as a Sergeant on January 7, 1954. He received the Army of Occupation Medal (Japan), National Defense Service Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. After the military, he returned to Floydada and was employed as a bookkeeper for Nichol’s Lumber Company. He married Myla Marie Thompson on April 9, 1979, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Mr. Hartsell was a farmer for many years in Floyd and Crosby Counties, retiring in 1995. He was affiliated with the First United Methodist Church in Floydada. He is survived by his wife Myla Hartsell of the home; two daughters, Holly Glasscock and husband, Lanny of Ada, Oklahoma, Hope Warren and husband Don of Floydada, Texas; four granddaughters, Joni Johnston and husband Larry of Washington, Oklahoma, Jeni Helleland and husband Tanner of Norman, Oklahoma, Becky Warren of Canyon, Texas, and Mary Warren of Canyon, Texas; a great grandson, Lane David Johnston of Washington, Oklahoma; sisters-in-law, Ruby Hartsell of Crosbyton, Texas, and Linda Gerholdt and husband Dale of Cedar Falls, Iowa, many nieces and nephews and other family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Edna Hartsell; three brothers, Glen Hartsell, Blanton Hartsell and Roger Hartsell; and four sisters, Lotella Burrows, Estelline Holmes, Ervalea Colville, and Modena Phillips. The family says those who wish may make memorials to College Heights Baptist Church Building Fund, 802 Quincy, Plainview, Texas 79072.
