Tulia, Texas—Ruth Cope, 91, died Sunday, September 5, 2010 in Happy. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, September 8, 2010 in the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Kay Reed, pastor officiating. Graveside services will follow at 3:00 PM in the Eldorado Cemetery in Eldorado, Oklahoma all under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. Ruth was born February 10, 1919 in Batesville, Arkansas to Nelson Monroe and Mittie Isabelle Lewis. As a child they moved to Dodson, Oklahoma until she was high school age and they moved to Jackson Co., Oklahoma and she attended and graduated from Lincoln High School. She married Joe Cope on December 4, 1938 in Eldorado. They farmed west of Eldorado for several years. She was a housewife. After they retired they moved to Quanah, Texas and later to Irving, Texas. Mr. Cope died February 21, 1998. She moved to Happy in 2006 because of health reasons and to live with her daughter. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law: Jo and Frank Venhaus of Happy, her son and daughter-in-law: Al and Debbie Cope of Irving, her sister: Allarah Johnson of Cascade, Idaho, four grandchildren: Marianne Cope of New York City, Aaron Lee Cope and wife Ashley of Houston, Micah Venhaus of Lubbock and Heather McCaw and husband Matt of Austin and one great grandson: Emmett McCaw of Austin. She is preceded in death by her husband, a brother; Buster Lewis and a sister: Mary Francis Arnold. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church Music Fund, 119 N. Briscoe, Tulia, Texas 79088 or to the Swisher County Museum, 127 SW 2nd, Tulia, Texas 79088.
