Bettie J. Cox (Plainview)

Bettie J. Cox, 79, of Plainview, died Thursday, November 2, 2006 at her residence. Services will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 4, 2006 at the First Baptist Church Family Life Chapel. Officiating will be Dr. Travis Hart, pastor of First Baptist Church and Rev. Joe P. Weldon, pastor of South Plains Baptist Church. Burial will be at Plainview Memorial Park by Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. Mrs. Cox was born May 23, 1927 in Kerens, Texas to the late Ernest and Byrdie McDowell. She had graduated from Olton High School and Wayland Baptist University. She had also attended Hardin Simmons University. Bettie had married William Waldo Cox on May 29, 1949. Mr. Cox died June 25, 1990. She had taught school at Abernathy Elementary. Bettie had been a member of Reaper’s Bible Study Group and First Baptist Church. Survivors include her daughter, Jerilyn Cox of Arlington, a son Rick Cox and his wife Denise of Plainview, a brother Edwin McDowell of Valley Mills, Texas; two granddaughters.
