Georgia Campbell (Plainview)

Georgia Elizabeth Turner Campbell, of Plainview passed away Wednesday, September 22, 2010 a day short of her 102nd birthday. Funeral services will be at 10:30 A.M., Monday, September 27, 2010 at First Baptist Church Family Life Chapel with Dr. Travis Hart officiating. Interment will follow in Plainview Memorial Park under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. Visitation for family and friends will be held Sunday, September 26, 2010 from 4-5 p.m. at the funeral home. She was born September 23, 1908 on the 18 Ranch in Nolan County, Texas to James and Sally Findley Patterson. Georgia married Hubert Lee Turner on June 30, 1926 in Roscoe, Texas. Georgia and Hubert farmed in Nolan County and owned the grocery store in Wastella during the Depression years. In 1940 they moved to Merkel with their two daughters and infant son where they owned a grocery store. They moved back to the farm in Nolan County and remained there until 1949 when they moved to Hale County. In 1963 Georgia completed the Licensed Vocational Nurse Course graduating with the highest grade in her class. She enjoyed her new career of service for several years after her husband’s death. In 1978 Georgia and her son Joe built Westridge Manor in Plainview where she devoted herself to providing care and wonderful meals for the residents. In 1979 she married L.F. Campbell of Tulia and they resided in Amarillo for a year then they moved to Plainview. After L.F.’s death in 1986 she continued to live in Plainview and moved into Westridge Manor as a resident in 2006. Mrs. Campbell is survived by two daughters: Maxie Walls and husband Bill of Plainview and Patricia Johnson and husband W.C. of Amarillo; six grandchildren; five great grandchildren and one great great grandson. Mrs. Campbell also enjoyed two step children: Sue George and husband Pat of Tulia and RADM (Retired) Donnie Campbell and wife Judy; four step grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren and two step great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two husbands: Hubert L. Turner and L.F. Campbell; two sons: John Lee Turner and B. Joe Turner and one granddaughter: Carissa Walls. The family suggests memorials to Area Community Hospice Foundation, 3109 Olton Rd. Ste. C, Plainview, Texas 79072.
