Lillian Echols Thompson, 87, of Plainview passed away on Thursday, September 23, 2010 in Plainview. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, September 27, 2010 at Calvary Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Plainview Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. Lillian was born on October 22, 1922 in Hale County, Texas to Lloyd and Florence Echols. She grew up in Plainview and graduated from Plainview High School. She married Sam Thompson on January 16, 1942 in Clovis, New Mexico. She went to work for the Plainview Independent School District starting in the cafeteria, then the library and finally in the administration office. She worked as a payroll clerk and administrative secretary. She retired in 1987 after 28 years. She was a devout wife, mother, and Christian. Her family and friends believed that she epitomized the virtuous woman talked about in Proverbs chapter 31. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and taught Sunday school. Lillian was preceded in death by a son, Troy Thompson; grandson, Clay Warren; brother, J.W. “Dub” Echols; sister, Doris “Dot” Mangum; and her parents, Lloyd and Florence Echols. She is survived by her husband, Sam Thompson of Plainview; her children, Dale Thompson and wife Gayla of Amarillo, Shirley Lee and husband Greg of Arlington, Freada Warren and husband Mark of Plainview; daughter-in-law, Stephanie Thompson Sweatt of Plainview; grandchildren, Melissa Hooks and husband Danny of Plainview, Russell Thompson of Katy, Vanessa Seaberg and husband Evan of Amarillo, Ann White of Arlington, Landon Thompson of Austin; five great-grandchildren.
