Maria V. Cantu, 73, left this earth on Tuesday, October 5, 2010 to bask in the rays of our Savior’s love along side her beloved Deacon Augustin. Funeral services will be at 2:00 P.M., Friday, October 8, 2010 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Rev. Gerard Kenney officiating. Burial will follow in Plainview Memorial Parkunder the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. Rosary will be recited Thursday, October 7, 2010 at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. She was born on May 30, 1937 to Bernandino and Bernandina Villescas in San Juan, Texas. She married Agustin L. Cantu on May 20, 1956 and together they had eight children. Their marriage was a beautiful union; Maria missed her Deacon terribly and was never the same after he passed away. She was a vibrant, loving, and caring person. She wore many hats such as Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Friend and the list goes on. Her children are left with the memory of a mother that always took pride in her work, her appearance and loving them unconditionally. Her grandchildren are left with many fond memories such as how grandma made the best tortillas and tamales, that she was an avid Dallas Cowboy fan and that she had no problem telling them when they were wrong. Maria believed in the phrase stay connected she made sure she had both of her cell phones with her. She often bragged that she had the best sons-in-law and often took their side. They often kidded with her telling her “Don’t hold back Maria, let us know what you are thinking” because she was very outspoken. She loved her daughters-in-law just like she did her daughters. The best memories were with her husband and the journey they took for him to become a Deacon, where they became friends with everyone in that ministry, they became an extension of her family and supported her until the end. Maria will be terribly missed, she was loved by many and her memories will keep her alive until we meet again.
