Long time Plainview resident, Jaynice Ann Boston Carpenter, was born August 11, 1930 in Amarillo, TX to Jay and Ruby Boston. She grew up in Hart, TX, where Mrs. Boston was Post Mistress and Mr. Boston custom farmed in the area. The family moved to Hereford, TX in her junior year of High School. She had one sister, Kathy Kay Boston Moore, deceased. She graduated from Hereford High School and attended North Texas Teachers College and Texas Tech University before marrying John Thomas Estes of Hereford. Jaynice and John had two children; John Jay Estes (deceased) and Jodie Ann Estes Williams. Jaynice married Medlin Carpenter in 1986. The eight years they spent together before Mr. Carpenter passed away were the happiest years of her life. Mrs. Carpenter was a member of First United Methodist Church in Plainview where for over fifty years she served in many different areas. She worked for most of her adult life. She returned to the workforce following Mr. Carpenter’s death as a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor at the J.B. Wheeler Unit in Plainview and remained there until medical issues forced her retirement. She deeply enjoyed her work with the imprisoned population there and tried to return but her health would not allow it. She remained active in her church and community until recently. Mrs. Carpenter is predeceased by her parents Jay and Ruby Boston, her husband Medlin Carpenter, her son John Jay Estes and her sister Kathy Kay Boston Moore. She is survived by her daughter Jodie Estes Williams of Austin, TX and her children Katherine Ann Williams of San Antonio and Jaynice Nichole Williams of San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. She is also survived by the children of her son: John Garrett Estes and wife Tami of San Diego CA, Erica Estes Pigg and husband Jarret of Turkey, TX and Joanna Estes Walden and husband Charlie also of Turkey. Also surviving is her daughter–in-love, Sarah Roberts Westmoreland of Lubbock. Mrs. Carpenter is survived by an additional daughter–in-love, Sherry Lynn Carpenter Akin and husband Kent Allen Akin of Plainview and their children Chad Allen and Jae Lynn Akin of Winter Haven, FL, Russell Scott and Jill Akin of Midland, TX. and Emily Lynn Akin Cannon and husband Shawn of Lubbock, TX. Mrs. Carpenter was blessed with eleven great-grandchildren: Madison Faye, Chance Clinton and Allie Belle Pigg of Turkey, Charles Cole Walden II also of Turkey, Rachel Elizabeth and Caroline Ann Akin of Winter Haven, Fl , Allison Grace and William Scott Akin of Midland, and Anna Katherine, Colten David, and Thomas Grant Cannon of Lubbock. In addition she is survived by nephews, nieces, and numerous dear friends. A visitation will be held from 6 to 7 P.M. on Friday, October 29, 2010 at Kornerstone Funeral Directors. Graveside services will be at West Park Cemetery in Hereford, Texas at 11:00am followed by a memorial service at First United Methodist Church Sanctuary in Plainview at 2:00pm. The family requests that memorials be made to First United Methodist Church or Area Community Hospice.
