Tulia, Texas—Betty Hundley was born February 18, 1934 at Thomas, Oklahoma to Charlie and Myrtle Bell and departed this life on November 16, 2010. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, November 18, 2010 in the Rose Hill Cemetery with Rev. Kay Reed, pastor of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. Betty grew up on a farm in rural Putnam, Oklahoma with her sister Lois Lee. They all worked hard on the farm, milking cows and always had a large garden. While Lois worked in the fields with their dad, Betty and her mother would can the vegetables. Betty’s elementary education was at a small rural school where her mother was her teacher. As a teenager she worked as a Candy Striper at the Thomas Hospital. Betty Bell Graduated from Putman High School in 1952 and Saint Anthony School of Nursing in Oklahoma City in 1955, receiving her registered nurse diploma. She first worked in Plainview, Texas and then in the Dimmitt Hospital. Betty was working at the Tulia Hospital when she met Charles Delbert Hundley. Betty and Delbert were married October 6, 1956 and lived their entire married life in Tulia. To this union, 2 children were born: Mark Allen Hundley and Brenda Lee Hundley. During these years Betty worked for Dr. Childress for 15 years and various doctors in Tulia. Later in life she did private duty nursing and cared for many elderly in the community. Some of the Hundley family’s happiest times were with the Swisher County Sheriff’s Posse, riding in rodeo grand entries and parades and enjoying and participating in roping events. Betty was known for her kindness and caring attitude toward her patients and others. She loved keeping a clean and orderly home and doing embroidery work, especially dish towels. Betty and Delbert were members of the First United Methodist Church of Tulia. Left to mourn her passing are: her husband: Delbert Hundley of the home, son: Mark Hundley of Ft. Gibson, Oklahoma, daughter: Brenda Hundley of Lubbock, one sister: Lois Ruble of Taloga, Oklahoma and a host of relatives and friends. Memorials may be made to a favorite charity.
