Rev. Glen E. Godsey, 86, of Plainview, passed away in Plainview on November 20, 2010. Funeral services will be at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, November 24, 2010 at the Wayland Baptist University Harral Memorial Auditorium with his son, Pastor Lynn Godsey officiating. Burial will follow in Parklawn Memorial Gardens under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday evening, November 23, 2010 at 7:00 P.M. at the First Baptist Church. Rev. Godsey was born May 21, 1924 in Bristol, Tennessee to Marshall Allen and Neta Gertrude Carrier Godsey. He attended school in Bristol, Tennessee. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and received the Purple Heart medal. He graduated with honors earning a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Wayland Baptist University in 1952. He married Mary Oralia Felix on December 28, 1945 in Santa Fe, New Mexico. She preceded him in death on October 22, 2010. He was also preceded in death by his parents and a son David Earl Godsey. He was licensed to the ministry in 1948 by First Baptist Church, Santa Fe, New Mexico, and ordained by First Baptist Church, Plainview, Texas in 1949. His vocational experience includes Missionary to Mexicans in Tierra Blanca Association, 1948-49; Pastor of Mexican Baptist Mission, Plainview, 1949-50; Pastor of Mision Bautista La Trinidad, Olton, 1950-60; Superintendent of Missions for Big Bend Baptist Association, Marfa, June 1967-September 1969; Pastor of Primera Iglesia Bautista Mexicana, Plainview, 1969-August 1984; Director of Missions for Permian Baptist Association, Seminole, 1984-94; and Associate Director of Missions for Caprock Plains Baptist Area, 1995-2010. His denominational and ministry experience includes, preached revivals in Anchorage, Alaska (English); Aguadulce, Panama, Guatemala, Spain (on two occasions), and Mexico (several locations), New Mexico, Oklahoma, Colorado, California, Tennessee and Texas (English and Spanish). While in the Big Bend Baptist Association he served as coordinator along the Rio Grande from Van Horn to north of Del Rio. He also worked across the border in Mexico in the states of Chihuahua and Coahuila. He served on the Credentials Committee for the Baptist General Convention of Texas; Nominating Committee for Convencion Bautista Mexicana of Texas; Catalytic Missionary for the Caprock Plains Baptist Area and Program Committee for the Baptist General Convention of Texas. Also, Speaker on the Baptist General Convention of Texas Convention Program held in Corpus Christi; Recognized by Convencion Bautista Mexicana of Texas as Honorary Pastor; Awarded Distinguished Service Alumni Award, November 1999, by Wayland Baptist University; Circle of Honor recognition of Glen and Mary Godsey, Kidsville Park, City of Plainview; Awarded McCoy Mission Service Award- April 2007; Awarded Legacy Leadership Award, September 2009, by Wayland Baptist University. His ministry since 1948 until the present was first and foremost with and to Spanish speaking people. Survivors include one son, Lynn Godsey and wife Tana of Ennis, TX; three daughters, Yolanda Rodriguez and husband Santos of Plainview, TX, Corina Cavaness and husband Dave of San Angelo, TX, and Betty Godsey of Plainview, TX; two brothers, W.P. Godsey of Bristol, VA and Clyde Godsey of Bristol, TN; one sister, Margaret Stout of Bristol, TN; two grandsons, Marshall Godsey of Ennis,TX and Christopher Cavaness of San Angelo; four granddaughters, Tanya Godsey-Gilmore of Murfreesboro, TN, Nacol Chavez of Plainview, TX, Jodi Ramos of Ft. Stewart, GA, and Emilee Cavaness of Canyon, TX; and eight Great Grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to the Rev. Glen E. and Mary O.
