Silverton, Texas—Mary Ann Sarchet, 75, of Silverton died Friday, December 17, 2010 in Lubbock. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Chapel at Kornerstone Funeral Directors in Tulia with the Rev. Ed Norris officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Tulia under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. Mary Ann was born May 19, 1935 in Clarendon to Gladys and J. Miller Hill. She graduated from Tulia High School in 1953, and graduated from Draughns Business College in Amarillo in 1955. She married Charles Sarchet on June 24, 1955 in Tulia, and they moved to Silverton in April of 1959, and had resided there since that time. Mary Ann worked as editor and publisher of the Briscoe County News for fifty one years. She was recognized for this service by the Texas Press Association following her retirement earlier this year. Mary Ann was also an EMT volunteer for the Silverton Ambulance service, as well as serving as the Worthy Matron of the Silverton Eastern Star Association. Mary Ann was formerly a member of the LOA Study Club, serving as president for two years. Mary Ann could be found on Friday nights in the fall doing what she loved, reporting on the Silverton Owl football team. “Memaw”, as she was known by her family was one of the most selfless, kind, and fun-natured people that you would ever meet. She spent a majority of her life making sure that the people around her had everything they ever needed and were set up to succeed. As you go through life, there will be very few people that can be counted on unconditionally and unequivocally to always provide support, encouragement, and guidance and be there as someone you could call upon during your lowest moments and would call upon to share your greatest joys. Mary Ann was one of these people to her family and others. She will be greatly missed. Survivors include her husband, Charles Sarchet of Silverton; a son, Ken Sarchet and wife Sandy of Converse; two grandsons, Brandon Sarchet and wife Meredith of Andrews, Jordan Sarchet and wife Amanda of Houston; one granddaughter, Molly Hindes and husband Cory of San Antonio; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Jim Hill and wife Emily of Tulia; and two nephews, Brian Hill and wife Felicia of Nazareth and Brad Hill and wife Theresa of Tulia. The family requests memorials be made to the Silverton Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 255, Silverton, TX 79257.
