Charles J. “Pete” Hardy of Tulia, passed away Saturday, December 23, 2006 at Runningwater Draw Care Center in Olton. A memorial graveside service will be announced at a later date. Local arrangements are by Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. Mr. Harder was born on January 24, 1921 in Swisher County to Charles J. Hardy, Sr. and Maude Jobe Hardy. He lived in the Lakeview Community and went to grade school at the Lakeview School, and finished high school in Tulia in 1939. Pete served in the U.S. Army during WWII from Oct. 6, 1942 until Oct. 21, 1945. He was in Company C, 169th Engineering Battalion in North Africa and later in Rome. He had received several medals and four Bronze Stars. He returned to Tulia after the war to make his home and married Waynelle Hogan in Plainview on June 19, 1948. Pete was a 32 degree Mason and received his 50 year pin in 1994. Survivors include his wife Waynelle Hardy of Tulia; a son John Mark Hardy of Tulia; two grandchildren. Mr. Hardy is preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.
