Plainview, Texas - Guy Oliver King, 90, of Plainview passed away on Tuesday, January 02, 2007 in Lubbock. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 4, 2007 at College Heights Baptist Church with Rev. Don Robertson officiating. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, January 5, 2007 in Knox City, Texas at the Knox City Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. Mr. King was born on May 12, 1916 to John Wesley and Ida Mae King in Rule, Texas. He began school at Rochester and finished high school at Sunset School in Knox City. He later attended Draughon’s Business College, Howard Payne, and Wayland Baptist University. He worked at Benedict Motors Ford Dealer in Knox City for several years. He later worked in the office of several Cotton Gins for 20 seasons and also worked as a scale clerk for ADM for 18 seasons before retiring in 1997. In 1946, he began farming and ranching in Knox and Hale County and was still involved in the operations until his death. In 1933 he was saved and joined the First Baptist Church in Knox City. In 1948 he was ordained as a deacon. After moving to Plainview in 1952, he joined College Heights Baptist Church. He served on many boards, taught Sunday school, and served as Chairman of the Deacons. In 1939, he married Sallye McElroy in Knox City. She preceded him in death in 1965. In 1968, he married Sherry Simthee Harrison in Plainview. He also served 9 years as a trustee for Wayland Baptist University. Survivors include his wife, Sherry King of Plainview; two daughters, Kandy Jo Hardin of Plainview, Misty Gail Johnson of New Deal; two sons, David Lynn King of Plainview, Don Brent Harrison of Lubbock; two sisters, Fannie Marie Carlisle of Granbury, TX, Mary Lou DuFour of San Clemente, California; 7 Grandchildren, and 5 Great Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Joe King, and one sister, Pauline Helen Hewitt. A visitation will be held on Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Kornerstone Funeral Directors.
