Tulia, Texas—Weldon Smith, 78, died Wednesday, January 24, 2007 in Tulia. Funeral services will be held at 2:30pm Saturday, January 27, 2007 in the Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel with Rev. Gerald Petsch, pastor of Christ Lutheran Church in Tulia officiating and Rev. Leonel Gonzales of Area Community Hospice assisting. Burial will follow in Plainview Cemetery under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors in Tulia. Mr. Smith was born February 22, 1928 in Plainview, TX. He attended schools at Prairie View and then high school in Dublin where he graduated and he attended Wayland Baptist Univ., He married Ruth Boedeker on January 24, 1958 in Providence. He served in the US Air Force. He was in Law Enforcement for 51 years serving in the Plainview Police Dept, Hale Co., Sheriff Dept. In 1968 they moved to Tulia and he was the Chief of Police for 15 years then a Swisher Co. Deputy Sheriff for several years and then the Swisher Co., Constable for several years. He was a member of the Christ Lutheran Church in Tulia. Survivors include his wife, Ruth Smith of Tulia, three sons and daughters-in-law; Denis and Marsha Smith of Amarillo, Randy and Jo Anne Smith of Amarillo and Gene and Rhonda Smith of Silverton, 11 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 1 great, great grandson. He is preceded in death by a brother and a great grandson. Memorials may be made to Christ Lutheran Church in Tulia or to the Area Community Hospice.
