Doris Nell Weil, 73, a loving wife, mother, "Nana", sister and friend went to be with our Lord on Friday, Feb. 2, 2007 in Lubbock. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 5, 2007 in Saint Alice Catholic Church with Father Jim McCartney officiating. Interment will follow in Plainview Memorial Park by Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. She was born Dec. 8, 1933 to Frank and Hazel Helton. A graduate of Hale Center High School, she married Edward Weil Feb. 4, 1954, at St. Alice Catholic Church in Plainview. Her family was most important in her life and she was a tremendous role model for them. She had a strong faith and love for Jesus Christ and demonstrated that relationship in her daily contact with family and friends. She was an active member of her church where she served in many leadership roles. She was President of the St. Alice Catholic Church Ladies Altar Society, Ladies Auxiliary, general chairman of the annual turkey dinner at St. Alice for two years and served on the St. Alice Parish Council. She also served as Communion Minister at St. Alice and as Communion Minister at the Mass celebrated by Pope John Paul in San Antonio. A talented seamstress, decorator and antiques collector, she established and operated The Weil Rose Antique Shop in Plainview and Hale Center and served as an antiques appraiser. She was a member of the Plainview Antiques and Arts Association. She also volunteered her time and efforts in support of her family and community through local and state activities. Doris was a 4-H club leader for Hale Center and was 4-H Project leader in Hale County, as well as a judge for area and state 4-H competitions. She also served as President of Hale Center PTA. Mrs. Weil served as a judge for Area Scholarship Pageants. She was President of Hale Center Young Homemakers and of the Texas State Young Homemakers for two terms. She was a sustaining member of the Plainview Junior Service League, member and past President of Omega Delphin Study Club in Plainview and was a member of Pioneer Study Club in Hale Center. She enjoyed membership in several bridge clubs in Hale Center and Plainview. She was President of the Auxiliary of the Association of Texas Soil and Water Conservation Districts and was named Conservation Homemaker of the Year. She is preceded in death by her parents and two brothers. Survivors include her husband; three daughters and their husbands, Rebecca and Scott Snider and Annette and Mark Nanny, all of Lubbock, and Rhonda and Jim Connolly of Plano; seven grandchildren, Blake Snider and his wife, Jamie of Abilene, Jeff Snider, Catherine Snider, Ann Marie Nanny and Alexandra Nanny, all of Lubbock, and Rachel Connolly and Anna Connolly of Plano; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Dave and Norma Helton of San Simon, Ariz., Joe and Alma Helton of San Angelo; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation for family and friends will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. with a rosary service to follow at 4 p.m. in Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel. Memorials may be made to a cancer foundation of your choice.
