Amanda Darlene Stillwell Curry, 59, of Abernathy, passed from this earth on Tuesday, October 8, 2019, after a hard-fought battle with cancer. A visitation is to be held on Thursday, October 10, 2019 from 6:00-7:30 p.m. at Kornerstone Funeral Directors in Plainview, TX. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, October 11, 2019 at First Baptist Church Sanctuary Plainview, Texas. Services are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. Graveside service will take place on the same day at 3:00 p.m. at Resthaven Cemetery in Quitaque, TX. Amanda was born on August 18, 1960, to Harold Wayne and Wilma Marie Smith Stillwell of Abernathy, TX. Amanda grew up in Abernathy, and was saved by her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at age nine while faithfully attending the First Baptist Church. She graduated from Abernathy High School in May of 1978 and then attended Wayland Baptist University in Plainview, TX, the following fall. Amanda was a contestant in the Miss Wayland Pageant. While at Wayland, she met the love of her life, Larry Franklin Curry. They married on November 24, 1979. They made their home in Quitaque, TX, and raised two sons in the communities of Memphis, Lakeview, Turkey, and Quitaque. Amanda acquired an abundance of friends through her Christian service in her church, job, and civic duties. She taught Sunday school and helped with youth groups for many years at Memphis First Baptist Church, Quitaque First Baptist Church, and Plainview First Baptist Church. Amanda participated in Plainview’s Bible Study Fellowship since it began in 2017. Quality time was crucial to Amanda, and she made sure her grandchildren understood that. She pitched and threw balls; rode bikes, four-wheelers, and jet skis; worked goats; fed horses; assisted in picture-taking for 4H photography; planted flowers; played dolls; colored, stitched, and baked with them. She had the gift of baking. Many couples we're blessed to have their wedding cakes passionately made and decorated by her. Amanda joined Soroptimist in January 2007 and was President in 2017-18. She served on several committees, with her favorite being the “Live Your Dream Award.” Amanda began her career in August 1986 for the Hall County Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service (ASCS). In March 2005, she transferred to the Farm Service Agency (FSA) Hale County office, where she worked until her retirement in April 2019, with 33 total years of service. Amanda is preceded in death by her mother, Wilma Stillwell; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bill and Alice Curry; and brother-in-law, Eddy Curry. She is survived by her husband, Larry Curry, of Abernathy; two sons: Jonathan Curry and wife, Carolyn; Levi Curry and wife, Shana; both of Abernathy; her Dad, Harold Stillwell of Plainview; a sister, Cindy Belt and husband Kevin, of Plainview; a brother, Randal Stillwell and wife, Terri, of Lake Allen Henry, TX; a sister-in-law, Dee Ann Curry of Abilene, TX; a brother-in-law, Danny Curry and wife Alicia, of Dallas, TX; five grandchildren: Carson, Justus, Layken, Carter, and Kelbi all of Abernathy; five nieces, four nephews, and many great-nieces and nephews. The family suggests memorials to Plainview First Baptist Church or Plainview’s Soroptimist/”Live Your Dream Award.”
