Barbara was born on November 7, 1938, the second child to John W. Walker and Avis Wilson Walker in Plainview. She grew up in Plainview and graduated from Plainview in 1958. Many years later she attended Texas Tech receiving a BS degree and from Oklahoma State University with a master’s degree in Gerontology.
On March 16, 1960, Barbara married Tom Almon in Amarillo. They were married for 62 years. Barbara and Tom lived in Plainview and Tulsa Oklahoma. Their almost 63 years marriage is a testament of their love for each other and their faith in God.
Before attending college, Barbara worked at City National Bank, Hale County State Bank, and First National Bank all of Plainview. After she received her degree, she worked for Westridge Manor and Christian Manor as the director in Plainview for 4 years before moving to Tulsa. Barbara was very instrumental in passing two state laws in Oklahoma to better the lives of seniors. She received numerous awards for her work with seniors in the Tulsa area.
Above all, Barbara was a Christian. Her faith was evident to all those who met her. She was known as a great pray warrior. Her prayer list was always full. After retirement she held many Bible studies in her home. She was an excellent Bible scholar always studying and listening to the Bible on tape. Barbara is preceded in death by her parents, one son, Thomas Stephen, and two brothers, Larry and Clinton Walker.
