Basilia Reyes Martinez

Tulia, Texas—Basilia Martinez, 80, passed away on Friday, May 3, 2019 in Tulia. A funeral mass will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, May 7, 2019 in the Catholic Church of the Holy Spirit with Father David Contreras officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia.

A rosary will be held on Monday, May 6, 2019 from 6:00 to 7:00 pm at the funeral home.

Basilia was born on June 14, 1938 in Gonzales, Texas to Natividad and Francisca Reyes. She grew up in Gonzales. She worked alongside her brothers and sister as a migrant worker. She married Simon H. Martinez, Jr. on November 22, 1960. They lived in Olton, Tulia, Dimmitt and back to Tulia in 1982. She worked for North Plains Compress in Tulia. She was a member of the Catholic Church of the Holy Spirit.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband: Simon H. Martinez, Jr., her sister: Connie Garza and five brothers: Lalo Reyes, Luis Reyes, Jesus Reyes, Gonzalo Reyes and Natividad Reyes, Jr.

She is survived by her children: Simona Martinez of Tulia, Selia Garza of Frostproof, Florida, Sandy Martinez of Tulia and Daniel Martinez of Tulia, one brother: Johnny Reyes of Amarillo, 13 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.
