Tulia, Texas-Ben Luera, 73, passed away on Friday, May 24, 2019 in Amarillo. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Friday, May 31, 2019 in the Catholic Church of the Holy Spirit with Father David Contreras, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. A rosary will be held on Wednesday, May 29, 2019 from 6:00 to 7:00 pm at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. Benjamin Luera, Jr. was born on August 12, 1945 in Knickerbocker, Texas to Benjamin, Sr. and Maria Luera. He moved to Tulia in 1949 and grew up here. He graduated from Tulia High School. He attended Barber College in Amarillo. He served in the Texas Army National Guard. He worked for the CerStar Corn Plant in Dimmitt for several years and also worked as a barber with his brother, Manuel at Manuel Luera Barber Shop in Tulia. He loved to cook and BBQ for his family and friends. He was a member of the Catholic Church of the Holy Spirit in Tulia. He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: Robert Luera and Manuel Luera and two sisters: Lupe Luera and Mary Helen Ontiveros. He is survived by one brother: Pete Luera of Guymon, Oklahoma, three sisters: Ophelia Garcia of Tulia, Mickey Ramirez of Tulia and Molly Suiter of Tulia and several nieces and nephews.
