Bertha Lee (Willmon) Gambrell, 80, passed away on Tuesday, April 4, 2023. Graveside service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, April 8, 2023 at Plainview Memorial Park in Plainview, TX with Evan Weiss officiating. Arrangements are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview, TX.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Friday, April 7, 2023 at Kornerstone Funeral Directors in Plainview, TX.
Bertha was born on October 14, 1942 to Pikney and Bertha Willmon in Spur, Texas and was raised in Afton, Texas. She loved playing basketball and living on the family farm. After she graduated from Patton Springs High School, she attended and graduated from Draughon’s Business School in Lubbock. After being asked three times, she finally said yes and married Jim Gambrell in Lubbock, Texas on October 21, 1961. Bertha served her community as an office manager for the Texas Department of Transportation for 30 years. She loved the people she worked with at TxDot and formed many lifelong friendships. She later earned a Business degree from Wayland Baptist University. After her retirement from TxDOT, she enjoyed spending time with her family, friends, church family and traveling.
She was known by many names: Bertha, Bertie, Sparky, Mom, Mimi, Great Mimi and friend. She loved her family and friends and cherished the time she spent with them. Her husband, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were most precious to her. She enjoyed making memories by spending time with her grandchildren over the years, which included spoiling them, playing with them, taking them places and watching them play sports. When her great grandchildren were born, she was overjoyed. She cherished those moments and had so much fun loving them. Bertha was involved in teaching bible school to young children, serving others through ladies bible group, World Bible school
for 25 years and loved quilting. She lovingly made quilts for her loved ones which will be cherished for a lifetime.
She is preceded in death by her parents; Pinkney and Bertha Willmon, two brothers, Dr. J.C. Willmon, Dr. P.A. Willmon, and sister Mabel Hale.
Bertha is survived by husband, Jim Gambrell; her daughters, Lisa Weidenbach of Colorado Springs, CO and Jennifer Lee Mitchell and spouse Bryan Mitchell of Plainview, TX; son James Michael Gambrell and wife Theresa Gambrell of Katy, TX; brother Dean Willmon of Whitney, TX, and sister Marilyn Reeves of Denton, TX; grandchildren Abby Weidenbach, Cole Weidenbach, Stephanie Havens, Lisa Lane, Miles Gambrell and Claire Gambrell; bonus grandchildren, Troy Allen Mitchell of Las Cruces, NM, Jake and Lindsay Sarno of Estancia, NM; great grandchildren, Charli Jo Lane, Sonny Patrick Lane and Emma Kate Lane and bonus great grandchildren, Jaylynn Sarno, Maddie Sarno, Shelby Sarno, and Lane Sarno.
