Tulia, Texas--Betty Rhea Myers, 92, passed away Friday, February 23, 2018 in Longview, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, March 3, 2018 in the Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel with Rev. Tommy Ewing and grandson Allen Mallory officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. A visitation will be held on Friday, March 2 from 4:00 to 6:00 pm at the funeral home. Betty was born in Vega, Texas on January 14, 1926 to Kinney Ira McCaslin and Edna Myrtle McCaslin. Her family moved to a farm near Tulia the same year. She graduated from Happy High School in 1942 and attended Wayland College in Plainview, Texas. Betty graduated with an Associate Arts Degree in 1944. She taught at Houston School south of Tulia on the old Plainview Highway until 1945. She married Phillip Eugene Myers on May 20, 1945. They raised five children while living in Cactus and Dumas, Texas. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and worked in the church nursery there until they moved to Sweeny, Texas in 1973, where she was in charge of the nursery there. She loved all of her babies in the nursery. Phillip and Betty moved back to Tulia in 1989 and resided there until Phillip preceded her in death on June 1, 2017. She then moved to Longview. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Billie McCaslin, Kenneth McCaslin and Glen D. McCaslin, and two great, great grandsons Alex and Benjamin Wheeler. Betty is survived by her five children: Phyllis Mallory and husband Jim of Longview, James Myers and wife, Marlene of Andrews, Roy Myers and wife, Kathy of Tyler, Marvin Myers and his wife Joyce of Amarillo and Barbara Jones and her husband, Gary of Cypress, brother: Charles McCaslin and wife Mary of Canyon and sister: JoAnn Ewing and husband Tommy of Tulia, one sister-in-law: Opal McCaslin of Tulia, 20 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren and 3 great, great grandchildren.
