Tulia, Texas-William Deen “Bill” Whitten, 78, passed away on Thursday, November 1, 2018 at his home in Tulia. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday, November 4, 2018 at the Kornerstone Funeral Directors in Tulia, TX with the Reverend Ernest McGaughey officiating.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, November 3, 2018 from 5:30 to 6:30 at the funeral home.
Bill was born September 26, 1940 to John Vester Whitten and Ruby Lela (Hancock) Whitten in Tulia Texas. He graduated from Tulia High School in 1959 and later moved to Denver Colorado to attend Denver Electronics School. Prior to graduating Denver Electronics School, he married his high school sweetheart, Twila Haught, on January 1, 1960. Later he joined the US Air Force where he worked on the Atlas missiles and travels took them to California, Kansas, North Carolina and Texas. Eventually they moved back to Tulia, Texas to raise their family and to take over his dads plumbing business where he was a master plumber. Eventually he started collecting rent houses and started a new business, Whitten Rentals. He loved to fish and hunt and spend time outdoors with his family. Later in life he loved to travel with his wife Twila to all reaches of the world. He loved to experience new cultures, try new foods, especially the sweet treats of the world. He loved to collect antique cars, guns, and coins. Above all, he loved to spend time with his family as was evidenced by the family picnics, ski trips, fishing trips, family cruises and attending the numerous sporting events of his grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his father: John Vester Whitten, his mother: Ruby Lela (Hancock) Whitten and a brother: Jon Ray Whitten.
He is survived by his wife: Twila Joyce Whitten of Tulia, his son: Tad Whitten and wife Beth of Liberty Hill, TX and their two daughters, Shelby and Gracie, his daughter: Toy Cogdell and husband Rank of Silverton, TX and their two sons, Rowdy and Riley, his sister: Jo Evelyn Anderson, his brother-in-law: Gary Don Haught and six nephews and 3 nieces.
