Tulia, Texas-Billie Jewel Johnson Mays, was born May 10, 1928 in the Childress School District in Swisher County, Texas and passed away surrounded by her family on January 7, 2018 in Haskell, Texas. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 am Wednesday, January 10, 2018 in Rose Hill Cemetery in Tulia with Mr. Bob Colson officiating. Arrangements are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. A visitation will be held from 6:00 – 7:00 pm Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at the funeral home. Mrs. Mays was a daughter of John Franklin and Cora Ingelton Potter Johnson and attended schools in Childress, Happy and Tulia. She married Bobbie Joseph Mays on March 27, 1947 in Muleshoe, Texas. He preceded her in death on July 4, 2007. She was a practical nurse, bookkeeper, receptionist, salesperson, historian and a member of Central Church of Christ, Tulia Senior Citizens, Swisher County Museum Archives and American Legion Auxiliary before moving to Haskell to be near her daughters. She is preceded in death by her parents, sisters, brothers, her husband: Bobbie Mays and a daughter: Frances Jolene Arnold of Haskell, Texas. Survivors include one daughter: Frankie Pauline Cothron (Steve) of Haskell, Texas; four grandchildren, Allen James Arnold of Lubbock, Texas, Bobbie Ray Cothron (Rachel) of Haskell, Texas, Sarah Rose Mullican (Lyle) of Asheville, North Carolina and Daisy Renee Cothron of Minneapolis, Minnesota, six great grandchildren: Hunter James Arnold, Shelby and Preston Morrow, Natalie Willis, and Elijah and Caleb Mullican; and a sister, Lela Mae Nevins of Tulia, Texas.
