Billy Thomas Young (Plainview)

Billy Thomas Young, 93, of Kress, Texas, entered into the presence of the Lord on Tuesday, February 4, 2025 in Plainview, surrounded by his children. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, February 8th at First Baptist Church in Kress, Tx with Pastor Will Fish officiating. A burial will follow the service at Parklawn Memorial Gardens in Plainview, under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors. A family and friend visitation will be on Friday, February 7, 2025, from 5:00-7:00 pm at Kornerstone.

Billy was born on December 6, 1931, in Quarterway, Texas, to T.Y. and Pearl (House) Young. He attended school in Kress and served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Billy married the love of his life, Jean (Davis) on August 4, 1956 . They shared 53 beautiful years together.

Billy and Jean farmed east of Kress all their married life. They were lifelong members of First Baptist Church, where Billy taught 7th grade boys Sunday School. They were also members of the Square dance club of Plainview and Billy served on the Kress ISD board of directors and also on the board at Kress Farmer’s Elevator.

Faith, fishing, farming and family were Billy’s passions. Billy loved the Lord and served him by faithfully taking care of His land. He came to know the Lord by kneeling in prayer on his farm land and spent many hours in prayer on the tractor. He also loved watching his kids and grandkids in all their activities. His pride and joy were his kids, his 4 grandkids and his 8 great-grandkids. Music brought Billy great joy. He loved playing the guitar with his brothers and later with his grandsons. He and Jean had the honor of meeting George Strait several times and attended every concert that they could.

Those left to carry on his legacy are his children, Donny Young and his wife, Kaylyn of Lubbock, Denise Christian and her husband, Vick, of Farwell, and Darren Young and his wife, Vickie of Plainview; grandchildren, Curt Christian of Austin, Nathan Young (Alyson) of Ruston, LA, Micah Dunn (Wally) of Midland, and Jarrod Young (Katie) of Howe; great-grandchildren, Slade, Saylor and Sloane Young, Cooper, Jon Walter, Lillie Kate, and Taylor Dunn, and Ellie and Jacob Young.

Survivors also include his wife of eleven years, Rita Blount Young of Plainview and her children Kenneth Blount (Trudi) of Edmond, Oklahoma, and Bobby Blount (Shirley) of Clifton, Tx and their families.

Billy is preceded in death by his wife, Jean, his parents, T.Y. and Pearl Young, his siblings, Francis Ready, Edgar Young, Carlton Young, G.W. Young, Audrey Mahagan, Elvin Young, Melvin Young, Margie Pool, Earl Young and Mearl Young.
