Billy Clay Matthews (Plainview)

Billy Clay Matthews, Sr., 92, of Plainview passed away on Thursday, August 6, 2020. A graveside service will be held 2:00 P.M. Monday August 10, 2020 at Plainview Memorial Park in Plainview with Oscar Chavez of Area Community Hospice officiating. Services are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. A visitation will be held on Sunday, August 9, 2020 from 3-5 P.M. at Kornerstone Funeral Directors in Plainview, Texas. Billy was born on June 15, 1928 to Henry and Ora Annie Matthews in Cotton Center, Texas. He married JoAnn Collier in Pecos, Texas in 1956. He was a Cotton Production Manager for ACCO Seed and Cargill for many years. He was a pilot and a member of the Civil Air Patrol here in Plainview. He loved to hunt and fish and loved taking his boys with him. He was an avid camper and took the family on many camping trips over the years. He was a Shriner for the Masons for 64 years. He is preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Monica Lyn Matthews. Billy is survived by his wife of 64 years, JoAnn Matthews of Plainview; his children, Melissa Young and husband Coleman of Muleshoe, Michele Tatum and husband Nathan of Amarillo, Clay Matthews Jr. and wife LeAnn of Bushland, Michael Matthews and wife Terrie of Amarillo, Mark Matthews and wife Dee of Longview and Mitchell Matthews and wife LaViza of Amarillo; seventeen grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.
