Birtie Jane Brunson Powers (Plainview)

Birtie Jane Kimbell-Brunson-Powers, 82, of Plainview passed away on April 22, 2023.  Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, April 25th at the Northwest Church of Christ in Plainview.  Burial will follow at 2:30 P.M. at the Rest Haven Cemetery in Quitique, Texas under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview.

A visitation will be held Monday evening from 6 to 8 P.M. at Kornerstone.

Born 10/23/1940 to Hattie Louvenia and James Woodrow Kimbell in Flomot TX. The middle child of 5 children, Betty, Catheryn, Birtie Jane, Mary Helen and James Lynn. Birtie was raised on the farm in Floyd County West of Flomot and attended school at Flomot, TX. She loved the farm and simple life they had and had many stories of her childhood she shared with us over the years.

Birtie married Bobby Ray Brunson on 5/24/58 in Quitaque TX and they began their family. They had two children, Bobby Ivon and Connie Jane. They were members of the Quitaque Church of Christ. They farmed in Briscoe County for 7 years and then moved to Amarillo then Shallowater and finally settling in Hale County near Plainview in January 1972. They farmed in Hale and Swisher Counties for the next 40 plus years raising their family and making memories. In 1978 they started attending the 11^th and Amarillo Street Church of Christ in Plainview. Their son Bob met and married Jeanine Hayes and this brought them all to attend services there, it wasn’t long that Connie met and married Benny Cantwell and so the next chapter begins.

The Church here in Plainview changed their lives, they found a home for the rest of their lives there. It was here that both their children were married and all their 5 grandchildren were Baptized. They had so many dear friends here, to many to mention! 

In 2012 Bobby passed away leaving Birtie with a broken and lonely heart.

In 2016 Birtie met and married Dan Powers of Brownfield and another chapter began. Birtie and Dan lived in Brownfield and enjoyed several years there together until her health caused her to move back to Plainview and close to her children and grandchildren where they could help take care of her needs.

The last chapter of Birtie’s life was spent living at Westridge Manor in Plainview where she was surrounded by friends and loved ones. This is a very special place and the family cannot express how much we appreciate how they have taken care of our Mother in her final months. Birtie passed from this life peacefully surrounded by her children on 4/22/23.

Moms life was filled with people who loved her and she loved them, we are going to miss her dearly but I know she is in a better place today in the arms of her Savior!

She is survived by her husband Dan Powers of Brownfield; Son and daughter-in-law Bob and Jeanine Brunson of Plainview; Daughter and son-in-law Connie and Benny Cantwell of Plainview; her grandchildren, Angela and Jeromy Bechtold of Kress, TX, Chad and Camy Brunson of Plainview, TX, Krystal and Shawn Hebert of Kress, TX, Kimberly and Justin Henry of Levelland, TX, Justin and Kristie Cantwell of Plainview, TX; great grandchildren, Clay Brunson, Jalayne Henry, Corbin Bechtold, Bentlee Hebert, Cai Brunson, Paige Bechtold, Cree Brunson, Avery Cantwell, Laynie Henry, Gracelyn Hebert, River Hebert, Wyatt Cantwell; sisters, Betty Mabry of Wichita Falls, TX, Catherine Conners of Levelland, TX; brother, James Lynn Kimbell of Turkey, TX;  sister-In-law, Peggy Herring of Houston, TX;  Many nieces and nephews and host of friends.

The family suggests memorials to Interim Hospice or the Northwest Church of Christ Evangelism Fund or the Church of India.
