Calvin Bruce Malcom (Plainview)

Our devoted husband, beloved father, and adoring grandfather, Calvin Bruce Malcom, 82, returned home to his Father in Heaven while surrounded by his loving family, on April 7, 2025 after a lengthy, fierce battle with metastatic bladder cancer.

He was born October 28, 1942 , to Benjamin Franklin and Mina Ruth Geiger Malcom in Quemado, New Mexico. He was the fifth of six children. He grew up in Quemado, Chama, and Cuba New Mexico.

Calvin met his sweetheart Cherry Lee Schultz at her aunt & uncle’s drive in movie theater in Regina, New Mexico. They were married in Juárez Mexico on April 11, 1970, and later sealed in the Mesa, Arizona Temple on October 31, 1981. Calvin and Cherry have created a legacy of love and devotion through their 55 years of marriage. They demonstrated their strength, determination, and sheer stubbornness together as they battled cancer hand in hand. Cherry lovingly attended to Cal’s every need until his last breath. Our father’s greatest joy was his family, and he took his role as a provider and protector very seriously. He loved our mom.

He loved to scatter sunshine all along his way. He had a big heart, was generous, and kind. With a twinkle in his eye, this man loved to tease those he loved. His family was everything to him.

Cal began working in the logging woods alongside his father at an early age. They don’t make biceps like this anymore. He loved being in the mountains. He then drove a logging truck, a tanker, and ended his career with Wal-Mart transportation with over 29 years of service. He was a decorated driver earning New Mexico and Utah Driver of the Year awards; as well as a national title. His most favorite award was a black cherry, custom Peterbilt awarded by Wal- Mart Transportation for driving 3 million safe miles. He served in multiple service organizations, but his favorite was Trucker Buddy.

Calvin lived a life of love and service. You knew he loved Jesus by the way he treated others. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Jim, and twin sisters Betty and Barbara.

He is survived by his loving wife, Cherry Lee; and their children Robert (Cheryl) of Plainview, TX; Jeffrey (Laura) of Enoch, UT; Amy (Greg) of Lubbock, TX; Douglas (Natisha) of Washington, UT. Their grandchildren Brittny, Robbie, Samantha, Hannah, Grace, Josiah, Kaylee, Cooper (currently serving in the Winnipeg Canada mission), Dalton, Gabrielle, Morgan, Kira, Seth, Benjamin, Brayden, Sadie, Tanner, and Eva. Great-Grandchildren. Sister Carol (Louis) Wiese of Cuba, New Mexico. Brother Jack (Janet) of Espanola, New Mexico. Many loving nieces and nephews. Dear friends, and his most loyal companion — Bo—his devoted dog.

Graveside services will be held high on a mountain top in Regina, New Mexico at the family cemetery on May 24, 2025. We give our gratitude to Dr. Forero, Dr. Campbell, MD Anderson, Hope Lodge and many, many nurses for the care of our dear dad.
