Carolyn Jane Stewart (Tulia)

Tulia, Texas—Carolyn Jane Stewart, 77, of Tulia, passed from this life Tuesday, August 13, 2019. A celebration of her life will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, August 15, 2019 at the Central Church of Christ in Tulia, Texas. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia.

A visitation will be held from 6:30-8:00 pm on Wednesday, August 14, 2019 at the funeral home.

Carolyn was born to Thomas Ray and Mary (Exum) Herndon on January 6, 1942 in Crosby County, Texas. Her family moved to the Union Hill area when she was very young. She graduated from Tulia High School and attended Lubbock Christian College where she received an associate degree. She later attended Texas Tech and Amarillo College to complete additional coursework. 

She married her high school sweetheart, Larry Stewart, August 24, 1961 in Tulia. Carolyn was always by Larry’s side helping him on the farm, volunteering as a 4-H leader in several projects including photography and shooting sports, training as an EMT, and later working as his partner in teaching concealed handgun classes. She worked as a secretary and office manager for George J. Jennings, Jr. Attorney at Law for over 30 years. 

Carolyn was a member of the Central Church of Christ in Tulia, where she taught in the nursery and frequently helped in the kitchen at church dinners. 

She is survived by her husband Larry, their son Andy Stewart of Happy, their daughter Angie Cox and husband Eric of Silver City, NM, grandsons Tell and Sawyer Stewart of Happy, and granddaughters Erika Burke and husband Josh of Silver City, NM, Allison Cox of Clovis, NM, Amber Cox of Lubbock, TX, and Emily Cox of Silver City, NM. She is also survived by her brother Jerry Herndon and wife Bettie Lu of Tulia, her sister Linda Liles and husband Mike of Flower Mound, TX, and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Tommy and Judy Stewart of Canyon, TX. Nieces and nephews include Jonathan Stewart of Bedford, TX, J’Amy Stewart of Canyon, TX, Brit Liles of Lewisville, TX, and Alisa Wainscott of Lubbock, TX.
