Charles was born on June 13, 1939, in Tulia, Texas, to Carl and Clarice King. He married the love of his life, Pat Waller, on July 6, 1957. Together, they shared 68 beautiful years of marriage, building a life grounded in love, family, and faith.
Known affectionately by many as “Sonny,” Charles had a work ethic as strong as his heart. He owned and operated his own heating and air conditioning business for 12 years before spending over 40 years hauling cattle, proudly running two leased trucks with dedication and care. His hands were always busy, his work always honest. Charles had a deep love for animals, especially horses, and found joy in trail riding and being outdoors. His granddaughter fondly remembers how animals seemed naturally drawn to him, a quiet reflection of his patient and kind spirit. He was gentle, generous, and steady; a man who treated everyone with respect and compassion.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Clarice King, and six siblings.
He is survived by his loving wife, Pat King of Panhandle, Texas; his son, Tim King of Panhandle, Texas; his daughter, Kandace Decker and her husband Andy Decker of Plainview, Texas; his granddaughter, M’Kinna Backus, and her husband Zachary Backus of Lubbock, Texas; his brother, Jimmy King of Tucson, Arizona; and his brother, Dale King and his wife Alice King of Burleson, Texas.
Charles leaves behind a legacy of devotion, humility, and kindness. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
